The song Someday was written in early 2008. In that time recorded as a very simple demo available on Soundcloud. Someday was in that time written to become part of a four song EP. That EP would also contain the songs Rikki’s on a Roll, New Girl and Never Forget. The idea was to turn this into a nostalgic production where each song would highlight an aspect of the golden age of the 1960’s popular music:
Someday – Merseybeat music (the song has some reminiscens of the Beatles’ 1964 track I’ll Follow the Sun),
Rikki’s on a Roll – the instrumental film music, like the Batman Theme),
Never Forget – the fusion of jazz and pop and
New Girl – Motown style. The original idea was to use a new ‘identity’ to release the songs, Rikki & the Rebels.
In 2021 these songs were finalised and the original idea of the EP was abandoned. The songs will now individually be released, Someday in September 2021, Rikki’s on a Roll in October 2021 (under the artist name Rikki & the Rebels) and Never Forget in November 2021. New Girl is still in production phase.
As stated before the idea was to record the songs in typical 1960’s fashion with -for example- extreme panning while emulating the typical atmosphere of these 1960’s recordings. For Someday this idea was partially abandoned as can be heard on the final result. The original 1960’s mix -that does contain those 60’s elements- is for sale as an NFT on the Open Sea website, the first time the music of Ewald appears as NFT!
The final version of Someday is now available on streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music. The song sounds as a combination of country rock and pop music. A lead guitar using third double notes has an important role throughout the song. After the two minutes mark the song switches in mood and has from that point a more Brazilian, jazzy feel to it, think Jobim and Sergio Mendes.
